Job description

Architect, Interiors & Architecture

At Gensler, we design for people. Our work is driven by a global perspective and grounded in a strong local presence, allowing us to innovate at every scale. Fueled by passion and an entrepreneurial spirit, our teams collaborate intensely to develop creative solutions to complex challenges. Our San Jose studio is home to a dynamic architecture and interiors practice, with expertise in large-scale commercial office buildings, repositioning projects for developers and technology clients, interior design for leading tech companies, and a growing portfolio in higher education and advanced technology sectors. Through our integrated, inside-out design approach, we create spaces that inspire—impacting not only the people who work in our buildings but also the surrounding communities. We’re currently seeking talented individuals who share our commitment to design excellence and innovation. If you're passionate about shaping the future of the built environment, we invite you to explore the opportunity below.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and plan complex architectural projects of varying types
  • Work in all phases of design through construction administration
  • Manage and lead the client, the design team, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives.
  • Ideally have Design-Build Project Experience
  • Produce BIM models and construction drawings
  • Resolve challenging technical and design issues with the team to produce innovative, technical and constructible solutions.
  • Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development for both interiors and core & shell projects.
  • A quick learner with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Effective communicator, collaborative and team-conscious.
  • Provide Mentorship and coaching to grow junior staff members
  • Participate in office culture and drive office initiatives
  • As a Gensler Architect, you will collaborate with a team of architects and designers to develop design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction administration phase of a project. You will be successful because you already know how to develop design solutions, translate sketches and documents into realized 3D models and construction drawings and can research technical issues when they arise. Your work ethic, combined with your commitment to collaboration and mentoring, makes Gensler the perfect place to nurture your career.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited school
  • Must be a licensed architect in the State of California
  • 5-10 years of experience in the profession of architectural design
  • Experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, and civil consultants
  • Experience working directly with trade partners and contractors
  • Experience resolving complex technical and design issues
  • Proficiency with Revit, SketchUp, 3ds Max, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of how buildings are constructed and the ability to create technical documents that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done
  • Knowledge of California building codes, standards, and building structures
  • Understanding of sustainable and universal design concepts
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices required.
  • For consideration, please submit your cover letter, resume, and portfolio in PDF format.
